RE•WESTERN asks the audience to reevaluate the archetypes, mythology and values of “The West” while reveling in its rich visual language. For more than a century the West has occupied a special place in the imagination of Americans, with perhaps only one foot in reality. In this series, Legends of the Lone Ranger, Younger, looks at the cost of Western expansion. His work juxtaposes established Western conventions with real people and damage associated with westward expansion. The use of recognizable imagery and traditional bas relief allows the viewer access through familiarity and craft. Humor and political commentary ask the viewer to reconsider our version of American mythology.
